What stilettos do for your legs…opera gloves do for your whole aura. Seriously those opera gloves have a lot of power to take anything that you are wearing from ‘ordinary’ to ‘extra ordinary!’
Opera gloves are never an afterthought, you plan to wear them… just as you plan to seduce. They are meant to add drama, mystery and glamour to whatever you are wearing. When you are wearing them, you are definitely not on the phone (not touch screen friendly😉) and also you are definitely not eating. However, sipping a champagne or a martini is acceptable, and heightens their effect, as they are cocktail friendly. If you really must sit down to eat, then you can take off just one glove, being careful to do it slowly one finger at a time. Rings are a definite faux-pas and must be avoided at all costs, but one diamond bracelet (Swarovski or other) works well.
When choosing your opera gloves, I prefer the classic sheer black that reaches just past your elbow, hugging the mid upper arm but not bear-hugging it;) Putting them on is the last thing you do just before you step into a swirl of perfume. Andddd never forget; taking them off is an art in itself, it must be done slowly with long lingering looks…after all an opera glove is more than just a glove…
These past few weeks of global home quarantine, and watching back to back CNN has made us all lose our natural spark and enthusiasm for things we normally have fun with. Of course, our focus has shifted to staying safe and healthy, and staying as sane and positive as we can to keep those around us motivated in these very difficult and uncertain days. Still I am fixated with gloves…in the 19th Century they were worn by women as a fashion statement but also with the intent of being protected from the rampant diseases of the time. Perhaps they will make another comeback, as life as we know it just became ‘life as we had known it’ and is continually transforming into a new normal. Stay safe & stay sexy.
